Ulysses S. Grant- Ulysses S. Grant was born on April 27, 1822 in Point Pleasant, Ohio. When Grant was 17 his father wanted him to enter the United States Military Academy in West Point. Grant wasn't a very good student at the academy, but when he graduated in 1843 he was glad it was over. In the Mexican-American war Ulysses S. Grant was working for General Zachary Taylor. Grant volunteered to be in the Civil War because of his experience during the Mexican- American War. After the Civil War, Grant was elected to be president in 1868. William Tecumseh Sherman- "The most widely renowned of the Union's military leaders next to Ulysses Grant." William T. Sherman was an American Soldier, businessman, educator and author. Sherman worked under Ulysses S. Grant in 1862 and 1863 during a campaign.

Robert E. Lee- From 1852 to 1855 he was the superintendent of West Point. At West Point he was in charge of teaching the men who worked for him. Abraham Lincoln offered Lee to be the leader of the Federal forces. Lee said no because he told Abraham Lincoln he didn't want to fight against his own people. Lee then joined the Confederate Army.
